Jeremy Saffer & Gage Young Photo Workshop Highlights!

I had the opportunity to head to NJ this weekend to attend the workshop that Jeremy Saffer and Gage Young put on. Things started Saturday Morning at 10AM with a whole lesson on every aspect of being a photographer in the music industry. From how to book shoots and get photo passes, to learning how to do follow up with a client and to get paid for your photos!

Sunday brought the heat and the hot weather. I'm glad it didn't rain. That would have definitely but a damper on things. Here's some images from day 2 of the workshop - getting to shoot the 2 guest bands ourselves!

I know we all had a great time over the course of the weekend. We had some awesome thai food from a local thai restaurant that was right down the street. The syndicate building had so many good locations to shoot at and we all got some great pictures to take back home with us. To wrap things up, Gage showed us some of his editing techniques and how he comes to a final edit with his photos. Most of all, we all got to do some great networking with other photographers. It's about helping each other out and learning from each other. Each photog there had their own personal style and experience. It's great to see what we all do when we shoot. No one shoots the exact same way.

If you get a chance to go to this intense workship, most definitely hit it up. Both of these guys have a lot of experience and have done so much work in the music industry. Their input is invaluable. I have learned a lot over the past couple workshops, It's been a great resource for me.

40/60 Photography: Pittsburgh

Hey all!

I'm here with the rest of the FortySixty Photography crew to do a commercial shoot. We all met up for the first time yesterday. Dave Allen came down from Ohio to chill with us and do some photos. Here's a couple snaps from yesterday's activities:

I think we have a great dynamic team going on and we're all excited for this weeks shoot. Today, we did some more prop shopping and gathering the rest of what we needed!

Stay Tuned for some more updates!

New Year, New Site, New Sight

The infamous New Years Eve Blog post. Oh what a year 2009 has been.

For me, it has been absolutely incredible. I never thought my photography career would have progressed like it has. I remember about the days that I would dream about having some AlienBees of my own. I would have to say that 2009 has had more ups, than downs for me.

My very first shoot of 2009 was on the 3rd of January, with the band known as Exit Ghost:

That shoot...really kicked off my year. I had a blast shooting those guys.

For those photos, I used my Homemade DIY beauty dish, made from a $1.99 plastic bowl from a party store, that I spray painted and followed an online how-to. I only had my Vivitar 283 and Focal M500T hot shoe flashes. That, folks, is where it all started. I was hooked after that.

From there, I was able to reach my AlienBee gear list of goals by mid January/February. For once in my life, a dream of mine was coming true.

From there, most of you have seen my progression on Flickr. Which, I'm very grateful for all of the kind words and critiques that I get there. Big thank you to those who favorite the photos. You guys have helped me out a ton.

I'm not a huge fan of resolutions, rather, Goals. Some of mine would be:

  • Purchase 5D, 17-40mm f/4L, 85mm F/1.8, 24mm F/2.8. Just a couple I have in mind
  • Shoot Bigger Clients
  • Shoot for AP
  • Develop/define my style more
  • Push myself harder than ever before - In my lighting techniques, editing, composition, color, placement, the whole 9 yards.

Even more thankful for the events that have happened. I went from using home-made light modifiers, to being part of 40/60 Photo - Which I could not be any more excited about. I remember when I used to look up to them and their amazing photos.

Like I said in my first video, You guys will be seeing a whole slew of video updates & behind the scenes photos and a lot more things from us at 40/60! I re-designed my online portfolio so I'll be launching that either late tonight or tomorrow.

I just have one last thing to say:

2010 will be the Year Of The Photographer.

Lets push the envelope. We got 365 Days, lets do this!
